A quick introduction: I’m originally from Saskatchewan but I’m now based out of Toronto. I’ve been working with the Grammy/Juno nominated writing and production team Kuya Productions Inc since 2012 and together we have written/recorded my first EP, which will be released later this year. I’ve released two singles over the past year: “I Got This” and most recently “Go On”, which features the Juno Award Winning Pop/R&B artist JRDN. We released the newest single (“”Go On”” ft JRDN) in late March 2014 paired with a music video, which was supported by MuchFact/MuchMusic and written/produced by myself . The video has an empowering & uplifting message: Even in the darkest moments of our lives beauty is all around us…. you just have to be willing to look for it.
What got you into music? I started singing when I was 8 years old when I was asked to sing a solo in an elementary school play. Ever since then I’ve been privately coached and as I got older, I became increasingly interested in songwriting. I started looking at different types of music and found that I really love so many styles of music. I play a little bit of guitar and piano, so I started writing and when I was writing, I really discovered that I was most thrilled and excited when I was writing Pop and R&B.
What are your sources of inspiration? Any song that I relate to and that captivates me… or song that are just plain fun. I like the poetry and depth that artists like Alicia Keys and Emeli Sande write from, but I also enjoy fun songs by Jessie J, Natasha Bedingfield, and Beyonce. Hearing their hits makes me want to write and sing my own.
Dream gig? My dream gig would be a world wide tour with Alicia Keys or Emeli Sande… hands down!
Your thoughts on Canadian Music Week? I really the that CMW is a great event for artist in Canada. It’s great place to network, learn about the industry, and hear some great music! This will be my first time performing there so I’m really excited to experience the festival from that side as well.
Interesting points others don’t know about you? I have endless energy and motivation… and I have a soft spot for simple, but beautiful things.
