A quick introduction: “Jessica started writing music at 10 years old while sitting around the kitchen table with her father and his acoustic guitar. Now, she has a growing catalogue of predominantly pop/rock songs. Since elementary school, she’s been involved with multiple bands, choirs, and several school musicals, one of which featured two of her original songs. Recently, her song Don’t Look Down was placed in an independent film, Scratched Vinyl; song Dear Reverie was placed in a webseries called Please Don’t Fire Me; and How To Be A Man is on a charity compilation CD by the Toronto-based non-profit One Fire Movement. She has also had 3 songs placed in various videos produced by non-profit housing organization Options for Homes and co-op car share Options for Cars.”

What got you into music? I grew up in a very musical household! My dad is a professional musician, as was my mum before I was born – so there was always music in the house. My parents taught me how to harmonize in the car and some of my favourite moments were making demos with my dad at the kitchen table. I started taking songwriting and playing live seriously after university when I realized the 9-5 wasn’t going to cut it on it’s own long-term.

What are your sources of inspiration? I pull inspiration from everything from thunderstorms to family experiences. Jilted love is always a fun one, too. Life’s full of surprises!

Dream gig? I would LOVE to play a major outdoor festival.

Your thoughts on Canadian Music Week? CMW is one of my favourite times of the year! It’s awesome having the city full of great live music and people from all over coming to check it out. I also think it’s an important moment for our industry to connect and innovate through the challenges and successes of the times.

Interesting points others don’t know about you? haha! Hm…tough one. I have a pet snake 😉
