A quick introduction: Michael Cassidy is a singer songwriter, whose take on folk is characterised by his fragile, tender voice and intimate lyrics, buoyed by uplifting choruses, all delivered in his distinctive Paisley brogue from Paisley. Michael sites a great variety of influences ranging from Folk heavyweights such as Richard Thompson and John Martyn to more contemporary acts such as Rufus Wainwright and Radiohead.

What got you into music? My father is a musician and I have been brought up in a very musical family. I was brought up listening to the classic folk and traditional music that my parents listened to. I also loved the pop music I heard on the radio that my sisters all listen to.

What are your sources of inspiration? Again my father is a musician and plays a lot of different instruments. He showed me how to play these instruments when I was very young. I love reading and find different books that I have read to be very inspiring to me in the songwriting process.

Dream gig? Probably a venue in Scotland called the Usher Hall that is incredible. Theres a few venues in the UK I have been very lucky to have played. Looking forward to finding similar venues in Toronto. Would love to support Rufus Wainwright who is a massive influence.

Your thoughts on Canadian Music Week? Brilliant festival. Loads of amazing artists playing all over the place. The city is buzzing and you get to see loads of great music. What is not too like!

Interesting points others don’t know about you? I have just been told that I lean to the left when I walk. I also have very hot legs. This is the truth.
