A quick introduction: Attempting to classify Xprime into one genre is fruitless: ours is a kind of sound meant to be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. With songs crafted to draw in every type of fan, from lovers of pop, embracers of blues and the hardest of rockers, there is literally something for everyone when it comes to Xprime. The band is comprised of 4 singing members (for optimal harmonizing): Phil Taylor (drums), Gab Sid (guitar, keys), Steph Mercier (Guitar) and Neil Carson (Bass).
What got you into music? Depends on who you’re asking! Neil was introduced to bass by a friend and learned the rest out of love for music and The Beatles. Rock&Roll music just seems to run through Gab’s veins; as a self-taught musician, he picked up keyboards first and then guitar. Steph learned guitar on his own and started off learning theme songs; before being inspired by punk and tech metal guitar styles. Phil just seemed to have groove all his life… or just couldn’t sit still; either way, it lead him to drumming!
What are your sources of inspiration? Almost anything and everything; from The Beatles to Mother Mother, The Eagles to Ok Go… Great music inspires us to compose and everyday life compels us to write.
Dream gig? The Moon. We want to be the first ones to play on its surface!
Your thoughts on Canadian Music Week? We love a good festival like CMW – It’s the odd time we get to stay and see this many other bands play in one city and meet so many great and influential people.
