2014 Canadian Screen Awards: Industry Gala 1 Photos
Toronto’s arts and entertainment is working its way towards the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala on Sunday, March 9th. The first round of awards were handed out last night, March 4 2014, during the first of two industry gala’s.
47 awards were given out to individuals in the News & Sports, Documentary, Lifestyle, Reality and Digital Media categories. The star-studded evening took place at the Sheraton Centre Toronto, hosted by comedian Steve Patterson, attended by notable individuals from the above categories.
The CBC took home 12 awards, including those for Local Reportage, Writing in a Documentary Program or Series, and the Barbara Sears Award for Best Editorial Research. Continuum snagged the Fiction award for Best Cross-Platform Project while Family Channel’s The Next Step took hope Children’s and Youth award for the same category. Ann Shin took home two wards for her documentary film THE DEFECTOR: Escape from North Korea; Best Direction in a Documentary Program and the Academy’s Diversity Award. Alanis Obomsawin took away two awards as well: The Humanitarian Award and Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program.
Other previously announced awards presented included the Academy Board of Directors’ Tribute to Marge Anthony (posthumously), the Digital Media Trailblazing Award to Alan Sawyer (posthumously), and the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism to W5.
