We attended the red carpet premiere of A Birder’s Guide to Everything, a new film by Rob Meyer, co-written by him and Luke Matheny and starring Ben Kingsley, James LeGros, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alex Wolff, Katie Chang, Michael Chen and Daniela Lavender.
A Birder’s Guide to Everything follows young, 15-year-old David Portnoy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) as he adventures to find an extinct Labrador duck that he thinks he has spotted. He and two other members of the local Young Birders Society, accompanied by headstrong photographer Ellen Reeves (Katie Chang), take off on a little adventure – an interstate road trip to be precise – in search of the rare bird and answers to various teenager questions, big and small. The film is a coming-of-age tale that puts the spotlight on special moments and relationships that change the lives of even the most focused of people.
