Batman these days is a super serious, super no-nonsense character, given deep emotion by the likes of Christopher Nolan and company. But in the good ‘ol days, Batman was rocking the cliches, the spandex outfit, and the ever so colourful, in-your-face typography. You can never compare the current day works to the old, but the old will forever be classics. The 1960’s Batman has forever become an iconic piece of television, ahead of its time, while still maintaining the perspectives and culture of the time.
Actors Adam West and Burt Ward, who portrayed Batman and Robin respectively in the 1960’s television series, will be in attendance at Fan Expo 2014 to mix and mingle with their fans, young and old. It’s cool that legends such as West and Ward would decide to come to Fan Expo, for a show that is separated by the current generation by decades. If it weren’t for some of the newer animated productions and feature films, the 1960’s Batman television show would have remained a simple classic and forgotten by modern audiences. It doesn’t necessarily fit with what audiences today have come to expect, but through current media, audiences have come to appreciate and respect the work that was done at the time.
For the record, we wanted to add all the “da da”s to the title, but then you’d have one VERY difficult to read heading!
West and Ward did a Q&A session with fans on Day 2 of Fan Expo 2014, sharing stories and insights into their career, and of course, answering the many questions about Batman.
