Quick Introduction: We are Black Rhino Riot, a group consisting of four zoologists. We spend our days working with animals and studying biology, and we our nights are spent making noise and drinking beers. Our younger selves would be pretty stoked about what we do now, but our parents are less than impressed.

In the band we have our lead vocalist/guitarist Jon Spero, Adam Briggs on drums, Jamie Gia is our lead guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist, and Clifton Kotwa is on bass.

What got you into music? We were trying to be cool, not sure if it worked though. We actually all met while attending The University of Guelph. All of us had played music in high school, so, we started a cover band. Soon after that, we started writing our own music and recorded our first EP “Truth”.

What are your sources of inspiration? Bands like The Strokes, Weezer, and Vampire Weekend are huge influences for us sonically. Lyrically, we are influenced by our own life experiences, social issues, and having fun.

Dream gig? Any show where the whole audience knows all the words and sings along. Maybe one that pays decent would suffice.

Your thoughts about NXNE? We are beyond stoked to be playing NXNE. The festival brings so much great music into Toronto, and gives small bands like us a chance to be heard.

Interesting points others don’t know about you? In the fall we are releasing our second EP. Did we mention that we are zoologists? When you see us, ask us some animal trivia.
