Quick Introduction: Robyn Craig and Ricardo Temporao are Toronto musicians and friends who decided to start jamming in 2011 with him on guitar and her on drums. By experimenting with harmonies and heavy arrangements (reflecting influences from Belle and Sebastian to Death From Above) they tried singing with and against each other. From sweet sounding layers to biting reminders that duet is a four letter word, they figured they might be on to something a little different. Skinny Bitches was born.

What got you into music? As a kid I was always digging into my older brothers music collection, and back then I think there was a different mystique surrounding artists. It was a great way of escaping the walls around you. In highschool a friend of mine asked if I would sing on some songs he wrote and when I realized that creating music was something not beyond my reach, I just never looked back.

What are your sources of inspiration? 80’s new wave and all sorts of melodic rock. Songwriters that twist my ear- people I can’t figure out right away that gets me interested. Most of all people who extend themselves into a clear and defined sonic persona, whatever genre – something so new and true it wakes up your insides… I love that

Dream gig? I once had a dream that I was playing an opening slot for Hall & Oates at the Olive Garden. My grandfather was in the audience talking politics with Bob Dylan while Kanye was working the salad bar but kept stealing people’s olives. I forgot how to play any songs and got a spanish heckling from a large red parrot. Also, playing at Bonnaroo would be very cool.

Your thoughts about NXNE? Lots of great bands and venues, but it’s the atmosphere and energy are infectious. It’s so great to see so many bands and get inspired.

Interesting points others don’t know about you? I worked at a Pizza Hut in highschool. I was doing cheese crust like 6 years before it came out officially. I feel like those dudes owe me a writing credit or something.
