A quick introduction: Perfect Mark is the musical project of Italian singer songwriter Marco Perfetti, currently living in Boston, Massachusetts. The project features Marco’s original songs arranged and recorded with the collaboration of of international musicians coming from Brazil, Korea, United States, Italy and Portugal. The first album, “Flesh & Voice”, was released in April 2014. The style is basically pop-rock, influenced by other genres like soul, funk, and folk. The songs showcase Marco’s vocal abilities, and deliver strong, powerful arrangements though still keeping a soft acoustic side.
What got you into music? I started singing as soon as I talked and music has always been my biggest passion. Nobody in my family is interested in music, I was the one who forced my parents to buy the first stereo! There’s not a specific thing that got me into music, I just spent hours as a kid learning every possible song and recording myself. As a teenager I was very shy but the will to sing was so strong that at the age of 17 I started studying music and performing, and that helped me a lot in building my confidence.
What are your sources of inspiration? In my songs I often talk about personal experiences and feelings, in a way that other people can relate to them too. Inspiration is really something I can’t control, most of the time I just take a walk and observe what surrounds me, I love walking in the city without a destination, listening to music with my headphones and letting my mind find the right words through associations of ideas between what I see outside and how I feel inside. Musically I like to be inspired by artists from very different genres: If I should name some I would say Chris Cornell, Incubus, Counting Crows, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Mumford & Sons.
Dream gig? There’s so many places I dream about: I love big festivals with huge stage and crowd like Coachella or the European rock festivals like the Pinkpop. But if I can really dream big I’d say The Grammy’s!!!
Your thoughts on Canadian Music Week? I’m really excited about being part of this festival not only for the performance but also for all the meetings, conferences, and events. It doesn’t happen everyday to listen to Quincy Jones, Diane Warren, Nile Rodgers etc. in the same week and especially to be able to talk face to face with so many people that work in the industry. I’m looking forward to network as much as possible. I think this festival can be an incredible opportunity for emerging artists like me and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
Interesting points others don’t know about you? In 2008 I almost made it to the first edition of the Italian X factor! I got to the judge’s house phase, we were 30 left but I was not selected for the final show, and I’m actually happy about it! When I was 17-18 I was a huge fan of hip hop and R&B and if somebody ever asked me to sing rock I would have said that I wasn’t capable to do it!!! My love for rock music started when I was hired in a 70’s hard rock band. I spent two years singing songs by Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, etc. I learned so much and for the first time in my life I realized that I could be that kind of singer.
