#1: Wild
Of all the films that I viewed at this year’s Festival, Wild had the greatest impact on me. At its core, this film is an exceptionally powerful relationship drama about a young woman’s downward spiral and subsequent attempt to draw herself back up. Director Jean-Marc Vallée uses several techniques including music, monologues, and memory flashbacks to paint a complete portrait of the mind of his real-life protagonist, who is played with raw passion by an impressive Reese Witherspoon. Heartbreaking yet ultimately inspirational, Wild was the best film that I saw at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and I believe it to be our greatest hope for yet another Best Picture win at the Academy Awards.
