Tatiana Maslany & Jordan Gavaris discuss Orphan Black


The Arts Scene catches up with Tatiana Maslany and Jordan Gavaris at the 2013 Toronto ComiCon to chat about their upcoming television series, Orphan Black.

Orphan Black follows the story of an outsider and orphan named Sarah (Tatiana Maslany). Sarah’s life is changed forever when she decides to assume the identity of a woman who looks exactly like her, after witnessing the woman committing suicide. Hoping  this decision will solve her various problems, Sarah soon discovers that she and the dead woman are actually clones. With the clock ticking, Sarah must find answers to the puzzling questions before she ends up dead.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Tatiana Maslany has been involved with acting for most of her life. Now residing in Toronto, Maslany has been a part of many outstanding productions, both on screen and on stage. She won the special jury prize for Breakout Star at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival for her role Ruby in Grown Up Movie Star, starring opposite Shawn Doyle. She recently was seen in Kate Melville’s Picture Day as Claire, a role that garnered her the 2013 ACTRA Award for Best Actress. Other films she has been a part of include The Vow, Eastern Promises and Violet And Daisy. She will be seen in Jason Priestley’s upcoming film, Cas & Dylan, starring opposite Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss. Her other television credits include Flashpoint, Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, receiving Gemini Awards for her performances.

Jordan Gavaris is also a fellow Torontonian, born and raised in Southern Ontario, and currently juggling his time between Toronto and L.A. Gavaris kick started his career with 45 R.P.M, a film written and directed by David Schultz. After being involved with numerous projects, including being a part of Degrassi: The Next Generation and Cartoon Network’s Unnatural History, Gavaris was named Playback Magazine’s Top Ten to Watch for 2010.

Orphan Black premieres on the Space Channel on Saturday, March 30 at 9E/6P.
