If you love TV shows, you probably have heard about Bill Cosby. Heck, if you haven’t, go on Google now. Like NOW. The Cosby Show is probably one of televisions greatest shows; a hit for practically its entire run from 1984 to 1992, holding the number 1 spot for five consecutive years! With 2 Emmy’s, 3 Golden Globes & a lot more awards, its pretty glittery as well. The Huxtable name was something that was pretty much in every household, and with good reason too. Bill Cosby had created a show that was simple, lovable & one that brought the whole family together. “Good decent writing never hurt anything” – something he said during the cast-reunion-after-25-years on the Today Show in 2009.
Mr. Cosby has come in the news a lot over the years and it really got me thinking about the show. The Cosby Show played an important role in the evolution of TV. It became an example of real-life-based sitcoms for future shows such as Everybody Loves Raymond & also brought a style of show that could reach out to a wider audience. Television shows nowadays, as brilliant as they are, lack one element that existed in shows back in the day: simplicity. With innovation and cultural evolution, comes dramatic change and with that the good ‘ol 80’s and 90’s will remain, truly, the good ‘ol days.
I could have taken any example of a great show from back in the day, but Bill Cosby really brought about something unique to TV that is still enjoyed by millions today. Like Bill Cosby said himself: “old is always fifteen years from now”.
