Saidah Baba TalibahName: Saidah Baba Talibah

CMW Show(s): Thursday, May 8 @ 8pm – The Garrison

Hometown: Toronto, ON

Music Genre: Blues/Rock/Soul

Year it all began: Before 1994

A quick introduction: My mother, Salome Bey had me singing onstage as soon as I could talk. I went to a school like FAME and danced in the hallways while singing at the top of my lungs. I was in a band back in the day called Blaxam, that was kinda like En Vogue on steroids, but we weren’t. I’ve been doing this solo thing for a little bit now, travelled all over the world. My favourite thing to do onstage is sweat, spread my legs and get down & dirty, like any blues woman would.

What got you into music? My mother, she was a singer. Plus, I have a very musical family.

What are your sources of inspiration? Life. It’s really that simple. Good, bad and ugly.

Dream gig? I’d love to play Wembley Stadium and/or touring with Queens Of The Stone Age, Skunk Anansie and Jack White.

Your thoughts on Canadian Music Week? It’s getting pretty big, and that’s real cool.

Interesting points others don’t know about you? I used to collect Black Panther comic books, haven’t had the time over the last few years, but I do have the very first one in mint condition!
