It’s that time of year again where we at The Arts Guild go nuts at Fan Expo. 2015 is a pretty cool year for the expo as they expanded their programming, brought in even more guests than usual, and put together some cool opportunities for fans.
The day began with a game of Quidditch. Yes, even we were surprised by that! The wizarding world’s competitive sport was brought to life by the Valhalla and Ryerson Quidditch teams, playing at the Olympic Park just outside the convention centre. The event became the expo’s opening ceremony, with one of the Phelps twins (I really have no idea which one) making a surprise visit.
After that, it was business as usual. Fans started lining up in their hundreds outside the expo building, VIP pass holders got in early, and then the rest of the expo mob followed suit at 4pm. Thursday is generally a slow moving, not-so-packed day.
That wasn’t the case this year.
It was packed. People in their hundreds attended the expo and took advantage of the relatively small celebrity schedule to check out the vendors, buy merchandise, and interact with some of the cool booths set-up. The Strain virtual reality experience was something that our videographer Glenn enjoyed. My favourite has to be, hands down, the LEGO area.
The show had a number of great panel discussions, one involving Captain Canuck which announced that Jason Priestley will be voicing one of the characters (COOL!), and SyFy Dark Matter panel with fellow Canadians Jodelle Ferland, Alex Mallari Jr. and Anthony Lemke.
We took quite a number of photos yesterday, and are serving up some of our favourites below. Check em out!
