Canadian Screen Awards 2013: Interview with George Stroumboulopoulos

Interviewing a celebrity, author or TV personality is one thing, but interviewing an interviewer is a whole different ball game. We catch up with TV rockstar George Stroumboulopoulos, after he was awarded the Shaw Media Award for Best Host at the 2013 Canadian Screen Awards, to chat about the awards show and some advice he’d like to give aspiring TV artists.

George Stroumboulopoulos, politely nicknamed Strombo, is a seven-time Gemini Award winning talk show host. Over his many years on TV and radio, he has interviewed folks from subject backgrounds and niches, highlighting the worlds of entertainment, leadership and education. To name a few: Oprah, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Hillary Clinton, Stephen Harper, Jimmy Carter, Salman Rushdie, Stephen King, Coldplay, Shania Twain, Michael Buble, Spike Lee, James Cameron, Deepa Mehta, Brian DePalma, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Wilde, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Robert Pattinson. That is a pretty impressive list and frankly, only the tip of the iceberg.

Strombo is a strong and vocal advocate of social issues and global initiatives. He is the first Canadian National Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations World Food Programme, was a driving force behind Canada for Haiti (a live benefit that raised more than 27 million dollars for Haitian earthquake victims), and One Million Acts of Green, which saw Canadians register 1.6 million acts of green on the official website.

George Stroumboulopoulos is the host and co-executive producer of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight which airs 7pm and 11:30pm on CBC Television. Follow him on twitter: @strombo.
