About 8 years to the day we saw the final film from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, adapted from the magical tales by J.R.R. Tolkien. Forever under the illusion that we would never see that magical world again, all our hopes were raised with the 2007 announcement that Peter Jackson would be Executive Producer for The Hobbit. We knew that something would now come about and that day has finally come. In December of 2012, Tolkien’s magical world will be rekindled on the big screen with the release of the first of two films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and the films official announcement trailer has been released! (See Below!)
The film features the return of Peter Jackson as the director and the return of some of our favorite Lord of the Rings cast including Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Christopher Lee as Saruman, Andy Serkis as Sméagol/Gollum, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Sir Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins & of course Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins. We also see the staring of very familiar faces: Martin Freeman (Sherlock) as a younger Bilbo Baggins & Benedict Cumberbatch (Also Sherlock) as Smaug/The Necromancer. Knowing the chemistry that Freeman and Cumberbatch already have together in Sherlock, it shall be interesting to see this in The Hobbit.
We clearly can see one thing from the trailer. That magic we saw in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy has returned!
