Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios is one of those experiences that I am not going to forget anytime soon. The magic of the production, the set, the people; words cannot fully describe how I feel about it all.
Michel Laprise, the man behind the writing and direction of Kurios, happened to be in Toronto on the day I saw the show. He was kind enough to take out some time to meet and chat about the creative thinking and process that went behind bringing Kurios to life.
This was a special interview.
I am in awe of artists and performers who bring the magic we see on stage and film to life. However, it is as awesome (or even more so in some cases) to chat with those people that are the masterminds behind it all. The creatives who dig deep to find and create a story that will move audiences.
Laprise’s creative mind is in full-display during this interview.
From the critical thinking behind the sepia palette used across the production that I absolutely loved, to the philosophy behind audience engagement that makes Cirque such a magical experience, he left no stone unturned.
Honestly, I wish the interview was longer.
When you watch Kurios, you are left with an abundance of emotions and memories that stay with you.
With that same token, after chatting with Laprise, I realized just how many micro-elements of the show were thought about and realized that we as the audience take for granted.
I hope you enjoy watching the interview with Michel Laprise as much as I enjoyed having the discussion.
Be sure not to miss out on the opportunity to see Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities before it concludes its run in Toronto on July 10. Get your tickets today.
