The journey to the 2015 Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala has begun. After the nominee reception this past Monday night, the first round of awards were presented last night, Tuesday February 24th, during the first of two industry gala’s.
The evening celebrated the many achievements, milestones, and efforts of individuals, teams and companies within the News & Sports, Documentary, Lifestyle, Reality and Digital Media categories. A total of fifty awards were presented last night, an evening hosted by Comedian Darrin Rose and held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto. Some of highlights included four wins for highly acclaimed documentary Tales From The Organ Trade, directed by this years Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism winner Ric Esther Bienstock. Our Man in Tehran was another top winner that evening, taking away five awards include Best Documentary Program and Best Documentary Direction. A number of special awards that were announced in the months leading up to the CSA’s were also given out last night. These awards were:
Diversity Award: THE EXHIBITION (Damon Vignale, Robert Straight and Miho Yamamoto)
Humanitarian Award: Michael Landsberg
Digital Media Trailblazing Award: Jeffrey Elliott
Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism: Ric Esther Bienstock
