2013 Annual Cape Dorset Print Collection at Feheley Fine Arts

Feheley Fine Arts presented the  2013 Annual Cape Dorset Print Collection on October 18th, 2013. A tradition that has been going on since 1959, the Cape Dorset Print Collection is an annual event where works from Cape Dorset’s talented Inuit graphic artists are presented to the public all across Canada. The 2013 collection features 32 images by 11 different artists in various different styles: stone cut/stencil, lithography and etching/aquatint.

2013, sadly, marked the passing of iconic Inuit Artist Kenojuak Ashevak, who has been a part of this beautiful collection for the past 50 years. This year’s prints includes 7 of her works, 2 of which are signed by her: “Serpentine Wolf” and “Above and Below”. Her other 5 works have been signed posthumously by her daughter Silaqqi Ashevak.

Other artists within this years collection include three newcomers – Nicotye Samayualie, Saimaiyu Akesuk and Siassie Kenneally – all featuring stunning new works, capturing an array of themes. The collection also sees works from veterans, such as Tim Pitsiuluk and Pitaloosie Saila, and a couple of works using vintage printing methods from the 60’s. It truly is a diverse collection.
