TD Presents 5th Annual Then & Now Series for Black History Month

 

In celebration of Black History Month, TD and Black Artists’ Networks in Dialogue (BAND) present the 5th Annual Then & Now Series, kicked off to the public with a launch party at The Gladstone Hotel. The series comprises of inspiring cultural events that put a spotlight on the achievements and accomplishments of black Canadians, past and present. Events will include exhibitions, concerts, films, live performances and much more.

After a few words by Karen Carter (Chair of BAND) and Alan Convery (Senior Manager, Community Relations at TD Bank Group), attendees of the official launch party were presented with a live performance by a group of artists from Kashedance, concluding the evening with an after-party hosted by DJ Dave Campbell.

This year’s Then & Now event features a diverse selection of key programming, which includes The Brotha’s Concert, produced by Andrew Craig Productions, featuring 14 of Toronto’s Black keyboard players on one stage playing multiple different genres of music; Habourfront Centre’s Kuumba, a three day celebration of Toronto’s African & Caribbean communities; and Reggae or Not: The Birth of Dancehall Culture in Jamaica and Toronto, featuring photographs by Beth Lesser documenting the history of reggae and dancehall music. Other events, among many others, include Young People’s Theatre’s The Power of Harriet T! and an in-conversation event with CNN’s Geraldine Moriba and Don Lemon, joined by Artistic Director Cameron Bailey.
