FreeHand: An Art Auction for War Child Presented by ArtBarrage

Art is a beautiful thing but when it becomes the medium to achieve a goal for a greater cause, it becomes even more beautiful. War Child & ArtBarrage partner up to present FreeHand, an art auction, featuring works from emerging Canadian artists alongside art from War Child programs in war-affected communities such as Afghanistan. This auction is curated by  Kelly McCray and Walter Willems, and all proceeds from the auction will be donated to War Child. Check out the photo-gallery below for photos from the special preview event.

In 1995, a young, 25-year-old Samantha Nutt touched down in Baidoa, Somalia, and witnessed the horrific scenes within the “City of Death”. For the past 15 years, she and her team have dedicated their lives for the advocacy of children and families in war-torn areas around the world. They work with war-affected communities to ensure children get access to education, opportunities to grow and the necessary justice for the in-justice that has been done upon them during their childhood. Nutt has been very vocal about her experiences and her drive to bring change for children affected by wars. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, a staff physician at Toronto’s Women’s College Hospital, author of many books and an avid public speaker.

FreeHand is an opportunity for the arts to be a part of the hope Samantha Nutt and her team have created for children around the world. Come and join art lovers from around the city, to celebrate beautiful Canadian art while also giving to a cause that will secure the future of children worldwide.
