The day finally arrived. The highly anticipated, and super busy, 2015 Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala. The evening brought talent from corners of Canada, all coming together to celebrate the best of Canadian art.
The evening presented another 43 awards, bringing the grand total to 128 awards over the past three award events, including another 14 special awards. The big winners that evening included Canada’s new “it” show Orphan Black and critically acclaimed film Mommy, created by Canada’s new poster boy Xavier Dolan. Orphan Black took home the award for Best Dramatic Series, as well as Best Actress for Tatiana Maslany, bringing the total awards given to the production to ten. Dolan’s Mommy took home nine awards, including the big daddy prize of Best Motion Picture. Call Me Fitz snagged up the Best Comedy prize, while Vikings scooped up the Best International Drama award. Some awesome moments included Jared Keeso winning Best Actor for his work on 19-2 and Bomb Girls: Facing the Enemy winning best TV Movie.
In addition to the category awards presented, five Academy Special Awards were presented as well:
- Cineplex Golden Screen Award for Feature Film: Don Carmody
- Golden Screen Award for TV Drama / Comedy: Rookie Blue
- Golden Screen Award for TV Reality Show: The Amazing Race Canada
- Claude Jutra Award for Best First Feature Film: Jeffrey St. Jules
- Fan’s Choice Award: Anna Silk
