The Arts Scene sat down for a quick chat with actress, songwriter & musician Amy Jo Johnson at the Women in Film & Television Toronto Short Film Showcase, where she presented to audiences her new short-film, BENT.

BENT is a new short-film written, directed & produced by Amy Jo Johnson, who also stars as one of the leads, Amelia. The short-film tells the story of two childhood friends who are living very different lives, even though they share the same tumultuous past. Other cast members include fellow Flashpoint co-star Michael Cram as Mitch, Sonya Salomaa as Jackie and Ingrid Kavelaars as Jane, all of whom are veteran actors in their own right. BENT marks Johnson’s directorial debut.

Johnson is best known for her work on CTV’s Flashpoint playing Constable Julianna “Jules” Callaghan, a role which garnered her a leading role Gemini Award nomination. Other notable roles include playing Julie Emrick in Felicity and Kimberly Hart – AKA The Pink Ranger – in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. She has been involved with many films over the years as well, recently starring in Lawrence Blume’s Tiger Eyes, a 2012 film with Arrow star Willa Holland. She also starred in A. Rappaport’s independent film Summer Song, opposite Alexa Vega, John Savage and Caleb Landry Jones.
